Final Text Pot
My text pot was created to raise awareness about drug overdose. A little over a year ago I lost a cousin to the very deadly drug, heroin. The words I chose were, "Be Your Own Hero" because it inspires someone who is struggling with addiction and reminds them that they are one of the main reasons why they can get out of the situation they are in. The shape of the piece is a syringe because the common way of consuming heroin is through injecting it into your veins with a syringe.
Final Dinnerware Set
For this project, I wanted to make simple shaped, functional dishes with a fun, colorful glaze. I threw a plate, bowl, and a cup, but I only got to complete the plate and bowl. My favorite part of this project was creating the splattered paint look with glaze on my pieces.
Final Dish for a Dish
This heart shaped dish was made to hold fried shrimp. I made it for my mom's birthday which just passed. I handbuilt a heart shaped slab and then slipped and scored half inch walls to the side. I would pick a different glaze color because the brush that i used had left over glaze from someone else's pot and it made a weird 2 tone color. I enjoyed making the dish and I think I made it the perfect size to eat out of.
Final Tea Pot Set
For this project I wanted the glaze to have a washed look so I added water to my glaze before applying it. Making the teapot was a difficult task, but I'm glad I was able to experience making one. As for the teacups, I made 3, but only one made it out of the kiln. Before having my final teapot I had tried making three previously and they progressively got better each time. I'm not sure if tea pots are my favorite thing to make, but at least I had the opportunity to try.
Discover Your Path
This project was a hard project to start, but once I had my idea and technique I was making my pots constantly. I was behind and barely making the deadlines for this project so I'm glad that it turned out the way it did. In my planning for this project, I had said that I wanted simple, functional pieces which I think I achieved. Originally I was worried about not having the 5 required pieces, but after I put my mind to it, I was able to be satisfied with 6 complete pieces. If I ever do this project again, I might look outside of the box and make something colorful and non-functional to explore more skills and techniques.
